Poland's foreign ministry says no Polish nationals have been harmed in the Middle East following the US-Israeli strike on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei and triggered a wave of retaliatory attacks across the region.

Spokesman Maciej Wewiór told reporters on Monday that four organised tour groups – around 200 people – had left Israel by land and been collected by Polish staff in Egypt.

Polish nationals are also leaving Jordan by air and ferry, he said.

The situation is more complicated near the Persian Gulf, where Wewiór urged citizens to shelter in place.

"Missiles and drones are still flying, and debris is falling," he said.

A crisis team has been operating at the ministry since Saturday, with diplomatic posts working around the clock.

The United Arab Emirates has pledged to provide Polish nationals with food and accommodation until they can depart – some 10,000 registered Polish citizens are in the country.

Wewiór appealed to travel agencies to stop selling and running tours to the region.

The ministry also cautioned citizens to use only verified sources of information, noting that some individuals were impersonating Polish consular staff and offering assistance for payment.
