The meeting at Belweder Palace in the Polish capital came during Magyar’s first foreign visit since taking office on May 9, following his Tisza party's election victory in April, which ended Viktor Orban’s 16 years in power.

According to the Polish president’s office, the talks focused on bilateral relations, economic cooperation and support for Hungary’s efforts to diversify its energy supplies away from Russia.

The two leaders also discussed regional security and deeper cooperation within regional alliances including the Visegrad Group, the Bucharest Nine and the Three Seas Initiative, Nawrocki's office said in a statement on X.

Marcin Przydacz, head of the president's international policy bureau, described the talks as "pragmatic" and "substantive," saying they confirmed strong ties between the two nations.

He told broadcaster Polsat News that discussions also covered Russia’s policies and the future of Europe, including cooperation on energy and regional infrastructure.

Przydacz said the talks touched on efforts to unlock funding from the European Peace Facility, an EU mechanism used to support military assistance and defence cooperation.

Earlier on Wednesday, Magyar held talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during which both leaders hailed a "new chapter" in bilateral relations. Their talks focused on energy security, Ukraine and regional cooperation, they told reporters.

Magyar also met Polish parliamentary leaders during his visit to Warsaw, including lower-house Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty and upper-house Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska.

Later in the day, Tusk and Magyar travelled to the Baltic city of Gdańsk for a meeting with former Polish President Lech Wałęsa.

Magyar is due to leave Poland on Thursday, travelling via Vienna before returning to Budapest by train.

On Tuesday, the Hungarian leader visited Kraków, where he met Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś and toured the southern Polish city's historic Wawel Castle.

After Hungary's election results were announced in April, Nawrocki congratulated Magyar on his victory and expressed hope that the traditionally close ties between Poland and Hungary would continue.
