President widens lead as Poland's most trusted politician: survey

President Karol Nawrocki has strengthened his position as Poland's most trusted politician, with 55 percent of respondents to a new survey expressing confidence in him.

Pollster CBOS said trust in the president increased by 2 percentage points compared with a similar survey a month earlier.

At the same time, 33 percent of respondents said they did not trust Nawrocki, down by 1 percentage point from the previous month, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski tied for second place, with 41 percent of respondents saying they trusted each of them.

Far-right Confederation leader Krzysztof Bosak ranked fourth, with 38 percent expressing confidence in him.

Meanwhile, Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the main opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, was the country's most distrusted politician, according to CBOS, with 54 percent of respondents saying they did not trust him.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk followed closely, with 53 percent expressing distrust.

Far-right lawmaker Grzegorz Braun and senior PiS politician Przemysław Czarnek tied for third place in the distrust rankings, each with 51 percent, CBOS reported.

The survey was carried out from July 2 to 12 on a sample of 901 respondents.
