The president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) has been charged with influence peddling in a probe over a corruption scandal involving collapsed cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto.
Radosław Piesiewicz, president of Polands Olympic Committee, is escorted into the prosecutors office in Katowice on Thursday, after being detained in Warsaw over the Zondacrypto investigation.

Prosecutors have also accused Radosław Piesiewicz of favouring one group of creditors over others amid the threat of insolvency, Poland's justice minister has said.

Piesiewicz was detained on Thursday morning by cybercrime police, who also searched his home and removed documents.

He was then brought to a branch of the National Prosecutor's Office's organised crime and corruption department in Katowice.

Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek said the charges were brought in the evening, calling it "an intense day" in a social media post.

The investigation follows reports that Piesiewicz received a luxury watch worth EUR 40,000 from Przemysław Kral, head of collapsed cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, among other gifts.

The Olympic boss allegedly promised Kral he would intervene with former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the head of the competition and consumer protection watchdog (UOKiK) over probes into the exchange.

Piesiewicz has said he paid Kral back for the watch in instalments.

Prosecutors allege that before the company's collapse, the Polish Olympic committee chief recovered 100 percent of the capital he had invested with the exchange — the basis for the creditor-favouritism charge.

Zondacrypto became PKOl's main sponsor in autumn last year.

Payments stopped and the company's logo was taken down from the committee's Warsaw headquarters after the exchange collapsed in April 2026.

Total losses from Zondacrypto's failure are estimated at PLN 350 million (EUR 81 million).

The influence-peddling charge carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison, while the creditor-favouritism one up to two years.
