Nawrocki said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday that he would like the US military base in Poland to be called "Fort Trump."
On Wednesday, Sikorski called the proposed name "politically risky," pointing to the need for funding approved by the US Congress before the base becomes operational in several years.
Sikorski noted that control of Congress could change, potentially shifting to Democrats, suggesting that a less politically controversial name could be preferable.
"I think that both Poland and the United States have figures who would cause less controversy in Congress. I'm thinking of Pulaski, Kościuszko or, if we want to make it political, I would prefer Ronald Reagan," he said.
Marcin Przydacz, a senior international policy adviser to Nawrocki, said the president discussed the base with US President Donald Trump during a reception in New York on Tuesday.
According to Przydacz, Nawrocki raised the issue of a permanent US military presence in Poland and said the political decision had already been made.
Przydacz said the next step is for Poland's defence ministry and military to turn the political declaration into concrete decisions, including choosing a location for the base.
