Kosiniak-Kamysz said three MikroGlob military microsatellites, Nos. 2, 3 and 4, had been launched into orbit and communication had been established with them.

He called the launch "another success of our space programme" and "another step towards strengthening Poland's security."

Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the satellites would increase Poland's own capabilities for reconnaissance and Earth observation.

Tomczyk said the agreement to build the MikroGlob Earth Observation Satellite System was signed two years ago.

All four satellites ordered under the programme are now in orbit.

Kosiniak-Kamysz described the achievement as "a great success of Polish technological expertise, industry and everyone involved in the project."
