“I am ready to make every effort to build consensus on issues such as judicial independence, but this must start with the recognition of the legally elected judges, not violence, including violence in the streets,” Tusk said.
He also thanked those working around the clock to ensure public safety amid the tense situation.
On the Tribunal, Tusk said judges legally elected by the Sejm should take up their duties.
He also expressed concern about the presence of politicians he described as openly pro-Russian outside the Tribunal.
He referred to Konfederacja Korony Polskiej leader Grzegorz Braun and Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jarosław Kaczyński, who joined protesters there on Friday evening.
He also said President Karol Nawrocki had an opportunity to de-escalate a situation he had helped escalate.
Tusk called on the president to "stop attacks" on judges legally elected to the Tribunal and allow them to carry out their duties.
