Morawiecki arrived at the Polish Army camp in the village of Nowa Łuka, in the eastern Podlaskie province, alongside Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, the state PAP news agency reported.
Addressing the troops, the PM said: “Today we are responsible for the whole European Union and its security. But above all, we are responsible for the safety of Polish territory, and so we can be proud, and we are proud, of your service, of your dedication, of your sacrifice.”
“Thanks to your service, we definitely avoided multiple dangers,” he underlined.
Morawiecki said that if the border had been “porous” or “poorly protected,” then “soon hundreds of thousands of people from the Middle East, the illegal immigrants used by the Lukashenko regime to stoke a political crisis, would be crossing it.”
“I would like to wish you a peaceful, quiet night,” the PM told the soldiers ahead of the Christmas Eve evening.
Meanwhile, Poland’s public broadcaster Polish Radio is also supporting the border forces on Christmas Eve. Reporters on Friday visited soldiers and border guards at the frontier, as Polish Radio aired interviews with the troops and their families, interspersed with festive wishes and Christmas carols dedicated to them, the broadcaster’s IAR news agency reported.
