Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) made the statement in the town of Janów Lubelski, eastern Poland, during one of the weekly rallies with supporters scheduled ahead of the country’s general election this autumn.
The inflation rate in March was 16.1 percent year-on-year, the highest Poland has seen since the late 1990s and the fourth highest among the 27 EU member states.
Kaczyński acknowledged that the government’s policies - which aimed at combating inflation without triggering unemployment, a crisis, or economic regression - were not successful, PAP wrote.
However, the official also claimed that government policies were well-thought-out and ultimately correct.
He further mentioned that they had provided various tax reliefs and subsidies to protect citizens.
Kaczyński also claimed that with inflation predicted to drop each month, government actions can be considered a success.
Kaczyński acknowledged that disasters such as COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine contributed to rampant inflation but said that the ruling camp had managed to avoid a crisis.
Meanwhile, President Andrzej Duda over the weekend also spoke about rising inflation, attributing it to government actions.
