One year after forming a coalition government, Polish PM Donald Tusk marked the anniversary by highlighting what he called a string of major accomplishments.

The main accomplishments, according to Tusk, include the launch of the “800+” welfare benefit, new family support measures, and a revamp of the country’s defense posture along its eastern border.

In a video posted on social media platform X, Tusk recapped his government’s first-year record. Featured successes include the introduction of a “grandmother’s benefit,” free in-vitro fertilization programs, enhanced pensions, and a plan to bring social disability pensions up to the level of the minimum wage. The clip also spotlighted the unlocking of EU funds for domestic investment, moves to lower healthcare contributions, and the start of major infrastructure projects—among them a high-speed rail network and what Tusk’s team calls the “Eastern Shield,” aimed at bolstering Poland’s military capabilities.

“This is just the first year. There’s much more ahead,” the video proclaimed, underscoring the government’s pledge to continue advancing social and economic reforms.

The prime minister also took aim at the opposition, particularly PiS (Law and Justice), Poland’s largest opposition party, which once ruled for eight years before losing power in elections one year ago. “To PiS politicians who felt suddenly worse after our government took office a year ago, I truly wish you good health,” Tusk wrote.

While the governing coalition—comprising Civic Coalition, Third Way (Poland 2050 and the Polish People’s Party), and the Left—presents its first year as a turnaround after nearly a decade under PiS, the opposition regularly critiques the administration as ineffective and misguided. Despite the ongoing criticism, Tusk’s government seems intent on forging ahead, touting tangible results and pledging more transformative changes to come.
