Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that Europeans are living in "prewar times" and urged domestic politicians to unite as global tensions rise, citing a NATO prediction that 2027 could spark a wider conflict.

Tusk told broadcaster TVN24 on Wednesday he had discussed security with US Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, commander of NATO’s forces in Europe, who warned that China might attack Taiwan in 2027 and coordinate with Russia, risking a global war.

“I do not want to scare anyone, but we are witnessing the birth of a global conflict,” Tusk said. “We need elementary solidarity on security.”

The premier said Polish security services foiled fresh “sabotage and hybrid aggression” attempts by Russia and Belarus on Wednesday, without giving details.

He accused activists who disrupt border-guard operations of doing Russia “a very useful job.”

Tusk added that Russia would stage "very large, aggressive" military drills in Belarus near Poland in the coming weeks.

Poland, the United States and other allies will hold their own exercises on their side of the frontier.

"These are serious matters," he said, calling on both government partners and the opposition to "show maturity."

"Politics today is deadly serious; it is not a game of opinion polls," he added.
