The move is seen as a way for Donald Tusk to sideline experts close to President Karol Nawrocki from sensitive discussions on how to end the war in Ukraine.

Kupiecki, a seasoned diplomat, previously served as Poland’s ambassador to the United States from 2008 to 2012, and later as deputy defense minister.

In his present post at the foreign ministry, he oversees security policy and transatlantic relations.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, his new responsibilities will include briefing the prime minister directly on international security issues, threats to Poland and Europe, and representing Warsaw at high-level NATO meetings focused on the conflict in Ukraine - pushing for Poland’s position to be heard.
