The command said Polish aircraft were deployed as a precaution and air-defense and radar units were placed on heightened readiness to secure national airspace, particularly near the border. It stressed that Polish airspace was not violated.

Russian strikes hit Kyiv and surrounding areas, as well as the Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, killing two people, according to Ukrainian authorities. Moscow used long-range weapons including Kinzhal ballistic missiles.

The Operational Command later said the Polish jets had returned to base and that ground-based air-defense and monitoring systems were back to routine operations. It thanked NATO for support, noting that allied aircraft from Spain and Sweden contributed to air policing.

Polish commanders said the scale of the morning strike on Kyiv placed it among the largest Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale war.
