Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, said security cooperation between the two nations would remain unchanged following talks with Tom Rose on Tuesday.

"Poland is a pillar of NATO's eastern flank and one of the United States' most reliable allies in Europe," Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on social media following the discussions.

The defence minister highlighted the presence of allied forces in Poland as a crucial element of the alliance's eastern defences, noting that Warsaw has become NATO's leader in defence spending growth.

"This is noticed and appreciated by our allies from the United States," he added.

Diplomatic tensions

The meeting comes days after Ambassador Rose announced he would cease contact with Poland's lower house Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty over what he termed "outrageous and unprovoked insults" directed at US President Donald Trump.

The dispute arose after Czarzasty declined to support Trump's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, arguing the American leader did not deserve the honour.

When asked whether the row had strained US-Polish relations, Kosiniak-Kamysz said his own contacts with American officials remained "very good", as did relations between Washington and Warsaw more broadly.

Defence ties

Poland has significantly increased its military expenditure in recent years, particularly following Russia's full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine in 2022.

According to the Polish defence ministry, the country currently hosts some 8,500 American troops, deployed as part of a NATO mission and through a bilateral agreement.
