Speaking at a news conference in Warsaw on Monday, Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said: "After a break of more than 10 years, we are returning to UN peacekeeping operations.”
He added that 230 Polish soldiers would be sent to Lebanon later this year to operate alongside Irish troops.
Czaputowicz said that the impending deployment of Polish troops "comes as a result of a crucial political decision.”
He added that Poland’s ruling conservatives—unlike the country’s previous government, led by the Civic Platform (PO) party—believe that "being part of UN peacekeeping is important.”
