Poland’s Jacek Czaputowicz and Germany’s Heiko Maas also talked about preparations for an upcoming commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II when they met in New York on Tuesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The two top diplomats met on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council briefing on international humanitarian law, a high-profile gathering that was presided over by Poland’s Czaputowicz.

The talks between Czaputowicz and Maas marked the second time the two foreign ministers met this month and the fourth time they got together since the start of this year.

Germany’s Maas this month took part in events in the Polish capital to mark the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising by Poles against their World War II German occupiers.

During their New York rendezvous, Poland’s Czaputowicz thanked his German counterpart for his sensitivity and understanding for the importance of historical issues in Polish-German relations, the IAR news agency reported.
