Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement that its top diplomat Sergei Lavrov would raise these concerns at talks with his Norwegian counterpart on Friday, Reuters reported.
Poland’s forsal.pl website quoted the Russian foreign ministry as saying that Norwegian territory was increasingly being used by NATO allies and that the Norwegian authorities have backpedaled on their commitments of not allowing foreign troops to deploy in the country during peacetime.
The Russian foreign ministry quoted Lavrov as saying in an article for a Norwegian daily that “increasingly active military preparations in areas close to the Russian border are a matter of grave concern.”
Lavrov was also cited as saying that “Norway is deviating from its ‘basic policy’ by deploying in its territory training bases for US and UK military personnel” and that the country “is also increasing its military budget and upgrading infrastructure.”
