According to the Polish foreign ministry, the talks revolved around "priorities of cooperation, including strengthening security by expanding NATO's deterrence and developing cooperation in the field of energy and energy security."

While in the US capital, Czaputowicz took part in the launch of the International Religious Freedom Alliance, "a network of like-minded countries fully committed to advancing freedom of religion or belief around the world."

During his two-day visit to Washington, Czaputowicz was also scheduled to take part in an annual National Prayer Breakfast with President Donald Trump, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

A host of senior US administration officials, Congressmen and diplomats were expected to attend this high-profile event on Thursday.

On Friday, Czaputowicz will travel to Lisbon for talks on bilateral and European issues with Portugal’s top diplomat Augusto Santos Silva, according to the Polish foreign ministry.
