On the eve of the championship match, the Polish and US embassies agreed to a friendly bet.
If Świątek were to win, the spokesman for the US embassy in Warsaw would eat pasta topped with strawberries - a summertime classic in Poland. If the title went to American player Amanda Anisimova, the head of communications at the Polish Embassy in Washington would sample a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a classic staple of American childhood.
Following Świątek’s decisive performance on Saturday - defeating Anisimova 6–0, 6–0 in just 57 minutes - the US side honored its pledge.

As promised, the embassy spokesman sat down to a plate of pasta with strawberries, an event captured in a short video shared on the embassy’s social media channels. His reaction was one of genuine surprise.
“This is good. I didn’t expect that, but it’s very good,” he said in the recording posted by the US Embassy Warsaw.
In a playful statement accompanying the video, the embassy wrote:
“It was a true diplomatic showdown. A deal’s a deal - we’re taking the loss on the chin, and our press spokesman bravely faced the pasta with strawberries. We’ve got it on video - check it out! Thank you to our Polish colleagues for a wonderful and delicious challenge.”
The embassy closed with a friendly nod to the next major tournament: “US Open is just around the corner. Ready for a rematch? Game on!”
