The decision was confirmed in a letter from Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp to parliament, according to Poland’s state news agency PAP.
The Dutch government has announced new national and EU-level measures against Israel over its continued obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Two far-right Israeli ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, have been declared personae non gratae and banned from entering the Schengen Area.
Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp cited their incitement to violence and support for illegal settlements as justification, while also calling on both Israel and Hamas to meet humanitarian obligations.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof warned that if Israel fails to comply, the Netherlands may support suspending Israeli participation in EU research programs and impose additional national measures, including arms restrictions and trade bans.
Israel added to Dutch national security threat list
Dutch intelligence services have recently - for the first time - officially classified Israel as a threat to national security. The move places Israel alongside Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea in the Netherlands’ latest risk assessment.
The unprecedented designation is reportedly linked to efforts by Israeli institutions to influence Dutch public opinion and politics through disinformation campaigns. Experts say the classification marks a significant shift in Dutch security policy and could have broader diplomatic repercussions.
