Five people were killed and 11 others injured, six of them severely, in a shooting at a bus stop at Ramot Junction on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Monday, the Reuters news agency reported, citing Israel's ambulance service.
"We strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Ramot," the Polish foreign ministry said in a statement, extending condolences to the victims' families.
"We emphasize the need for a political solution to the conflict in Gaza and the West Bank," it added.
The ministry reiterated Poland’s support for a "two-state solution, with Palestine within borders guaranteed by law."
Israeli police said two "terrorists" arrived by car and opened fire at the bus stop. They said a security officer and a civilian shot and killed the assailants, according to Reuters.
Palestinian militant group Hamas praised two Palestinian "resistance fighters" who it said had carried out the attack but it stopped short of claiming responsibility, Reuters reported.
Poland last month reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defence "within internationally recognised borders" but strongly condemned the scale of civilian casualties in Gaza, saying Israel has failed in its obligation to protect civilians as an occupying power.
Poland also reiterated its long-standing support for Palestinian statehood, which it has recognised since 1988.
The Polish foreign ministry said on August 4 that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was "resulting in an unimaginable humanitarian catastrophe and civilian suffering."
