On Sunday, Yad Vashem wrote on the platform X that “Poland was the first country where Jews were forced to wear a distinctive badge in order to isolate them from the surrounding population.”

The post added: “On 23 November 1939 Hans Frank, the governor of the Generalgouvernement issued an order that all Jews aged 10 and above must wear a white cloth armband 10 cm wide marked with a blue Star of David on their right arm,” and encouraged readers to consult the full article analysing this antisemitic law.

On Monday afternoon, Sikorski said he had summoned the Israeli ambassador because the misleading post had not been amended.

Poland's top diplomat had previously asked Yad Vashem to clarify that when Jews were forced to wear the Star of David armband, Poland was under German occupation.

On Sunday evening, Yad Vashem responded on X, pointing out that the linked article under its post clearly states that the order to wear the Star of David armband was issued by the German authorities.
