Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau, said the decision was directly linked to Viktor Orban’s trip to Moscow and its political implications. The Hungarian prime minister met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, drawing criticism across the region.
Przydacz stressed that Nawrocki supports tangible efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and views European security through the lens of Lech Kaczyński’s doctrine of regional solidarity. Orban’s outreach to Moscow, he added, runs counter to that approach.
Originally, Nawrocki was scheduled to spend two days in Hungary, attending the V4 summit on Wednesday before an official visit in Budapest on Thursday, including meetings with President Tamas Sulyok and Prime Minister Orban. These engagements have now been cancelled.
The Esztergom summit will proceed as planned, with the presidents of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary set to discuss security and regional cooperation.
