The decision internationalises the search for Yevhenii Ivanov, 41, and Oleksander Kononov, 39, who are accused of carrying out coordinated attacks on Poland’s railway infrastructure in November.

According to national police, Interpol’s general secretariat published the red notices on 17 December at the request of the Polish authorities. Both men are believed to have fled to Belarus.

Prosecutors allege that Ivanov and Kononov used explosive devices to damage railway tracks near the towns of Mika and Gołąb in eastern Poland on 15 and 16 November.

The attacks targeted railway line No 7, a strategically important route linking Warsaw with eastern Poland and the Ukrainian border.

Investigators say the damage, combined with the placement of metal objects on the rails and the destruction of sections of overhead power lines, created an immediate risk of train derailment and mass casualties.

Ivanov, born on 13 September 1984 in Estonia, and Kononov, born on 7 September 1986 in Ukraine, are accused of acting in the interests of Russian intelligence.

Earlier, the Warsaw regional court issued European arrest warrants for both men and ordered their pre-trial detention in absentia.

A third suspect, Volodymyr B., a Ukrainian national, has been charged with aiding and abetting the sabotage by helping the perpetrators reconnoitre the sites and prepare the attacks. He is currently being held in custody.

Polish officials describe the case as part of a wider pattern of hostile intelligence activity directed at critical infrastructure.
