Poland’s top diplomat Radosław Sikorski held a phone call with his Azerbaijani counterpart on Tuesday to discuss international security and the implications of the conflict in the Middle East, the Polish foreign ministry said.

In a post on X, the ministry said Sikorski and Azerbaijan's Jeyhun Bayramov broached "the security situation in the Middle East and the South Caucasus, as well as the possible political and economic consequences of the ongoing conflict.”

During the conversation, Sikorski, who also serves as a deputy prime minister, "condemned the drone attack carried out in early March from Iranian territory against Azerbaijan and stated that such violations of international law are unacceptable," according to the Polish foreign ministry.

Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry said earlier this month that four civilians were injured in Iranian drone strikes on a school and an airport in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan.

Iran has denied launching the drones.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have long been strained, with Baku’s close ties to Israel a source of tension with Tehran, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Israel and the United States launched air strikes against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and several Gulf states, targeting both US military bases and civilian sites.

Poland has condemned attempts to widen the conflict in the Middle East and has urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint and respect international law.
