He made the statement after meeting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose country currently holds the chair of ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Nawrocki said the Philippines and ASEAN represent a very large market and offer significant business and trade opportunities for Poland and Europe.

He praised the way Marcos Jr. is leading ASEAN, saying the organisation's importance in global politics and the economy is steadily growing.

Nawrocki recalled that Poland joined the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia in Manila in July 2026, calling it an important step in strengthening Poland's presence in the Indo-Pacific.

He said Poland wants to develop relations with ASEAN countries not only as an EU member, but also as a large Central European country with significant economic, technological and defence potential.

Economic cooperation was an important topic in his talks with Marcos Jr. Nawrocki said Poland is currently the world's 20th-largest economy and wants to establish a lasting presence within this framework, adding that Poland is counting on strong ASEAN support for its efforts.

Other subjects included the defence industry and security.
