“If we show weakness today in front of Russia, we are laying the ground for future conflicts,” the politician added, noting that Kyiv’s allies want a strong and lasting peace and for Ukraine’s territorial integrity to be respected.

Emmanuel Macron also stressed that no country can accept losing part of its territory without security guarantees for the rest.

Zelensky to meet Trump in Washington for talks on Ukraine’s future

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to travel to Washington with several European leaders at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump, with talks expected to focus on ending the war and securing long-term guarantees for Ukraine.

Reuters reported on Sunday that Moscow may be prepared to withdraw from small areas it occupies in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions in exchange for recognition of its control over Donbas - the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces - while also demanding international recognition of its sovereignty over Crimea.

Also that same day, President of the European Council António Costa said on X (formerly Twitter) that transatlantic unity is essential to achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine. He warned that the EU and U.S. must increase pressure on Russia if no ceasefire is agreed, and welcomed U.S. participation in security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression.
