The plan was first announced in July during Polonia Camp in Warsaw, the largest gathering of young members of the Polish diaspora.

Senate Speaker Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska told lawmakers that the move was designed to energize younger generations of Poles abroad.

“It is extremely important for us to activate young members of the diaspora, so that they want to cultivate Polish traditions and history, and become ambassadors of our country,” she said.

Through social media, Kidawa-Błońska announced: "In July at Polonia Camp, I promised we would establish a Youth Council for the Polish diaspora. Today that promise became a reality! Senators unanimously approved the resolution to create it. We now have a new platform for dialogue and collaboration with young Polish leaders from around the world."

The council will serve as an advisory and cultural body, helping young people abroad stay connected to Poland, promoting civic engagement, and providing input on issues relevant to Polish communities overseas.

It will consist of 16 members appointed by the Senate Speaker for the length of the Senate’s term. The positions will be honorary, without pay, officials said.

Interest among young people has already exceeded expectations. Nearly 100 have applied to take part, despite only 16 seats being available.
