The composition of Lecornu’s cabinet had sparked widespread criticism from both opposition parties and members of the ruling coalition.

Following a morning meeting with the prime minister, President Emmanuel Macron accepted Lecornu’s resignation. Lecornu’s tenure lasted just 27 days, and his government survived only a few hours, making him the shortest-serving prime minister in modern French history.

The move comes amid mounting political pressure. Since Sunday, the opposition had threatened an immediate vote of no confidence against the center-right government. At the same time, some centrist ministers in Lecornu’s cabinet opposed the inclusion of certain centrist politicians, even threatening to resign themselves.

Now, calls for action are growing across the political spectrum. The left is demanding President Macron’s resignation, while nationalist parties are calling for early parliamentary elections.

France has seen five governments in the past two years, highlighting ongoing political instability.
