According to Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński, officers from the CBZC’s Kraków branch arrested the man on 16 November during an operation ordered by the Kraków District Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators allege he gained unauthorised access to the IT systems and databases of an online retailer by breaking through its security protections, later manipulating the structure of those databases.

Prosecutors say such activity could have had significant consequences for the company and its customers.

Following the arrest, prosecutors requested a preventative detention order.

The Kraków-Śródmieście District Court approved the request, placing the suspect in custody for three months.

Investigators believe the man may be linked to other cyber incidents affecting not only Polish businesses but also firms in EU member states.

Authorities are currently verifying these connections and assessing potential damage.

Prosecutors say the case is developing and additional arrests or charges are possible.

According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly crossed Poland’s border illegally in 2022 and obtained refugee status the following year.

Announcing the arrest on social media, Interior Minister Kierwiński said the suspect had “broken through IT security systems to gain access to company databases” and confirmed that a temporary detention order had been issued.
