The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the country’s labour ministry.

There were around 1,018,400 people without jobs across the nation at the end of October, compared with 1,023,700 a month earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office.

Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said last month that the Polish labour market was stabilizing after a period of lockdown and restrictions affecting the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that some 5 million jobs have been saved around the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aims to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

Poland's jobless rate is expected to rise to 8 percent at the end of this year, from 5.2 percent at the end of 2019, under a recently approved revision of the country's 2020 budget.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 3.1 percent in September, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
