Poland’s central bank plans to issue a new PLN 1,000 note in the near future, its head Adam Glapiński has said.

He did not reveal when exactly the new bill would enter circulation.

He only said that this was likely to happen under the bank’s next governor, sometime after 2022.

“I think the next governor will be introducing the PLN 1,000 note,” Glapiński told reporters.

At the moment, the highest denomination in circulation in Poland is the PLN 500 bill.

The central bank has put 46.5 million such notes into circulation since February 2017, Glapiński told a news conference last week.
