The agreement on Monday came as Poland plans to build a new mega-airport between Warsaw and the central Polish city of Łódź. The high-profile project aims to integrate air, rail and road transport.
Polish company CPK, which is at the centre of efforts to construct the airport, said in a statement: “Spain is among the world leaders in the development and management of a high-speed rail system, and the Polish side is interested in drawing on their experience.”
Polish state-owned rail carrier PKP Intercity announced earlier this month that it planned to more than double its fleet of high-speed trains capable of travelling up to 250 kph by 2030.
Polish government ministers were discussing a range of bilateral and European issues with their Spanish counterparts during two-way talks in Alcalá de Henares near Madrid on Monday.
The talks, officially referred to as intergovernmental consultations, were led by Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Spain’s Pedro Sánchez.
