The study, released by Poland's premier chocolate maker Wedel to mark 170 years since its establishment, found that Poland exported almost USD 2.1 billion worth of chocolate products last year, claiming 7.3 percent of the global market, the PAP news agency reported on Wednesday.
According to industry data, sales of chocolate are growing both domestically and worldwide despite the coronavirus pandemic, the report found, according to the Polish news agency.
The global market is set to expand from USD 106 billion at the end of 2020 to USD 133 billion in 2025, an almost 25-percent increase over five years.
Meanwhile, the Polish market was worth USD 7.65 billion as of the middle of this year, a 0.5 percent rise on the previous year.
Poland was the world’s fourth-largest chocolate exporter last year, behind Germany, Belgium and Italy, and its global market share grew by 13 percent over 2019, according to the report.
Meanwhile, chocolate consumption in Poland rose from 4 kg per person a year on average in 2007 to 5.2 kg this year, an almost 30-percent increase.
To compare, in western European countries such as Austria and Germany, the average consumer eats 8.3 kg of chocolate per year, the report found.
