There were around 927,800 people without jobs across the nation at the end of January, 32,500 more than a month earlier, according to the Polish labour ministry.

The state-run Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported last month that the Polish jobless rate had held steady at 5.4 percent in December, unchanged from November.

Meanwhile, the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, estimated this week that unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.9 percent in December, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
