“Russia's aggression against Ukraine has confirmed the accuracy of the Polish government's determination to become completely independent from Russian gas. We always knew that Gazprom was not a reliable partner,” Moskwa tweeted on Monday.

In an interview with state news agency PAP, Moskwa said that the decision came naturally as a result of Russia breaching the contract by halting gas supplies to Poland last month. The halt in supplies came after Polish government refused to pay for Russian gas in roubles.

Polish government’s commissioner for strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, told public broadcaster Polish Radio on Monday that Warsaw adopted a resolution terminating the contract from 1993 on supplies of Russian gas to Poland ten days ago. He added that an official notification will be sent today.

In March, Poland announced a plan to renounce Russian coal, oil and gas by the end of the year.
