The agreement was signed by officials including Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk in Warsaw on Friday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Under the deal, a consortium of two companies, Multiconsult Polska and Transprojekt Gdańsk, will prepare design documentation for a new railway line to Poland’s planned first nuclear station, to be built in the northern villages of Lubiatowo and Kopalino, officials said.

Adamczyk told reporters: “The functioning of a nuclear power plant is a big challenge. It requires good rail connections.”

The construction of the new rail line should begin in the middle of 2025, reporters were told.

According to officials, “the new rail line will ensure efficient and safe transport of materials and workers for the construction and subsequent functioning of Poland’s first nuclear station”.

Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said last November that the government would build three reactors in northern Poland, with “construction set to start in 2026 and the first reactor to be ready in 2033,” according to news reports at the time.
