Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in March: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 0.5 percent in March on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in March increased by 12.6 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,508.34 (EUR 1,630, USD 1,790), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Poland’s Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg this month estimated that the country's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent in March, down from 5.5 percent in February.

There were around 848,300 people without jobs across the nation at the end of March, down by 16,500 from a year earlier, according to the government.
