Polish retail sales 7.3% down y/y in April: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went down by 7.3 percent in April at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s statistics office reported on Tuesday.

Sales of newspapers and books decreased by 15.6 percent last month in year-on-year terms, and those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics fell by 14.7 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products went down by 8 percent, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics decreased 2.5 percent, according to Statistics Poland.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 3.4 percent higher than in April 2022, Statistics Poland said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in April were 0.1 percent higher than in March, the statistics office also reported.
