155 thousand tons of waffles and wafers were exported by Poland last year worth €833 million, representing a 17 percent increase in volume and a 33 percent increase in value, the latest data show. That secured Poland’s position as the world’s leading waffle exporter for the eighth year running, Polish economic website Obserwator Gospodarczy reports.
The export of waffles and wafers has been growing successively since 2013, and even the COVID-19 pandemic did not stop it. Compared to 2019, the export of these products from Poland increased by 34.9 percent in terms of quantity and by as much as 60.9 percent in terms of value.
According to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), "exports of bakery and pastry products, including waffles and wafers, which account for more than 30% of this category, grew further in the first seven months of 2023 despite unfavorable external factors such as increases in energy and raw material prices".
Polish waffles and waffles reach as many as 106 countries worldwide, although they are mainly consumed by European Union citizens. Most sweets of this type were exported to Germany. The share of this country in the value of Polish exports of these products amounted to 17.8 percent, followed by Great Britain with 13.5 percent, the International Trade Center data shows.
