Polish jobless rate second-lowest in EU, at 2.9% in February: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.9 percent in February, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency reported on Wednesday.

The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in February, at 2.6 percent, while Slovenia trailed Poland in third place, with 3.1 percentaccording to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 11.5 percent, and Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 11 percent, according to the latest available data.

Eurostat reported that the EU average for February was 6 percent, stable compared with January.

Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last week that the Polish jobless rate held steady at 5.4 percent in February, unchanged from January.
