According to the latest report by Poland's Social Insurance Institution (ZUS), expenditures on sickness benefits alone for foreign workers have risen by roughly PLN 332 million over the past eight years, from PLN 41.8 million in 2015 to PLN 374.6 million (EUR 86.6 million, USD 92.9 million) at the end of 2023.

Foreign workers helping boost Poland's job market: expert

Labor market expert Oskar Sobolewski of HRK Payroll Consulting says that the influx of foreign workers benefits Poland's job market.

"Without them, we would have far more problems with employment," Sobolewski said. "The situation with the Social Insurance Fund (FUS) would also be more challenging."

He further stated: "Unlike several years ago, the majority of foreigners now work legally in our country, which also translates into higher contributions."

The latest ZUS data indicate a more than 500-percent increase in the number of foreigners insured for pensions and disability in Poland over the past eight years, the Rzeczpospolita newspaper reported on Tuesday.

In 2015, there were 184,200 foreigners with pension or disability insurance across the country. At the end of 2023, their number exceeded 1.12 million.
