A new 120-room hotel is set to be built in the lakeside town of Mikołajki, a popular summer resort in Poland's northeastern Mazuria region, according to local officials.

Mayor Piotr Jakubowski told reporters last month that a building permit had been issued for the project, which will rise on the shores of Lake Tałty.

The hotel will consist of two connected buildings and feature a swimming pool, sauna and gym, state news agency PAP reported.

Jakubowski said the investor is a local entrepreneur who plans to create jobs for residents.

The complex will stand near the four-star Gołębiewski Hotel, which holds nearly 700 rooms.

Mikołajki and its surroundings offer about 17,000 overnight accommodations, more than twice the number of residents. Many visitors also stay on sailboats in nearby marinas during the summer.

The town is known for its bustling summer atmosphere but reverts to a quiet lakeside community in the off-season.
