Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in August: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.8 percent in August on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector increased by 7.1 percent last month compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 8,769.08 (EUR 2,060, USD 2,425), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policestimated this month that Poland's unemployment rate rose to 5.5 percent in August, from 5.4 percent in July.

The average wage in Poland rose 8.8 percent in the second quarter of this year compared with the same quarter of 2024, according to data released by Statistics Poland last month

The country's minimum monthly wage is currently PLN 4,666 (EUR 1,095, USD 1,290) and is set to rise by 3 percent to PLN 4,806 in January.
