Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in January: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.8 percent in January on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office has reported.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector increased by 6.1 percent in January compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 9,002.47 (EUR 2,130, USD 2,515), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy estimated this month that Poland's unemployment rate rose to 6 percent in January, up from 5.7 percent in December.

Statistics Poland on Wednesday confirmed the estimate.

The country's minimum monthly wage increased 3 percent at the start of January to PLN 4,806 (EUR 1,135, USD 1,340), from PLN 4,666 in 2025.
