Speaking ahead of a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Tusk said Gaz-System had decided to expand its LNG infrastructure plans following a market study that indicated strong demand.
The new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) is expected to have an annual capacity of 6.1 billion cubic meters of LNG.
Tusk said the project would reinforce Poland's position as a regional LNG hub.
He noted that the country already operates an LNG terminal in the northwestern port city of Świnoujście and is completing construction of its first floating LNG terminal in the Bay of Gdańsk.
The prime minister said the project would be financed commercially rather than through government funding, citing strong market interest in the project.
Gaz-System said on Tuesday it had decided to increase the planned capacity of the new terminal to 6.1 billion cubic meters per year following a market assessment.
CEO Sławomir Hinc said the findings demonstrated clear interest in Poland's growing role as a regional LNG hub and that the project was consistent with the company's long-term development strategy.
With two floating LNG terminals and previously completed infrastructure projects, Poland's total gas import capacity is expected to reach about 50 billion cubic meters annually, Hinc said.
Gaz‑System is building the first floating terminal in the Bay of Gdańsk, also designed to handle at least 6.1 billion cubic meters per year. The launch is planned for late 2027 or early 2028.
Poland's onshore LNG terminal in Świnoujście began operations in 2016 and now has a capacity of 8.3 billion cubic meters per year.
Gaz‑System operates the country’s main gas pipelines and manages the terminal in Świnoujście.
