The figure came in slightly lower than expected by analysts, who had forecast a 4.4-percent increase in Polish industrial production last month, state news agency PAP reported.
'We are revving up': finance minister
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański said in a social media post that domestic industry was gaining momentum, driven primarily by a surge in the production of capital goods.
"In May, industrial production went up by a respectable 3.9 percent, compared to a 1.2-percent increase in April," Domański wrote.
"The strongest rebound was seen in capital goods production, which jumped 10.4 percent," he added.
"We are revving up," he declared.
In month-on-month terms, Polish industrial production in May was 2 percent lower than in April, the Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Meanwhile, the country's seasonally-adjusted industrial production went up by 1.6 percent in year-on-year terms in May, while inching up 0.2 percent month on month, according to the state-run statistics office.
According to the European Union's Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, Poland's seasonally-adjusted industrial production rose 2.1 percent in April compared with the same month in 2024.
