Germany’s exports to Poland grew €2.6 billion, or 5.7%, to €49.4 billion, surpassing exports to China, which stood at €41.4 billion. Polish exports to Germany increased by €2 billion, up 5.2% year-on-year.

Poland is now Germany’s fifth-largest trading partner, behind France, the United States, China and the Netherlands.

“Since the EU’s 2004 enlargement, Germany and Poland have written a remarkable success story. We should continue to discuss issues calmly and develop the EU together,” said association head Cathrina Claas-Muehlhaeuser.

Germany’s federal statistics office said ongoing border checks had little impact on trade, though the Federal Association for Freight Transport and Logistics urged streamlined truck procedures. In 2024, over 9.7 billion truck toll crossings were recorded at the border.

Germany also saw strong trade growth with Ukraine, up 30% to €4.6 billion, and with the Czech Republic, up 3.4% to €57.8 billion. Trade with Hungary fell 3.7%, while commerce with Russia dropped 13%, with countries such as Serbia, Croatia and Lithuania now surpassing Russia as partners.

The German Eastern Business Association represents companies active in 29 countries in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
