Early in the morning, Polish financial authorities reported a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on the national payment infrastructure, temporarily disrupting the BLIK mobile payment system, which is widely used across Poland.

Gawskowski said intensive measures were taken to mitigate the effects, and that services were gradually returning to normal. He emphasised that such attacks occur regularly and are usually neutralised without major impact on users.

Following the payment outage, the Warsaw-based travel company ITAKA experienced a separate cyberattack, resulting in the leak of login details for some customers.

Specialists from Poland’s NASK cybersecurity agency remain in contact with ITAKA and are coordinating operational actions to identify the perpetrators.

The Ministry issued guidance for affected customers, recommending immediate password changes, enabling two-factor authentication wherever possible, using password managers to generate strong, unique passwords, monitoring accounts and emails for potential phishing attempts, and, if necessary, securing their PESEL number - Poland’s national identification number - to prevent financial fraud. Users can check if their data was exposed via the official portal: https:\/\/bezpiecznedane.gov.pl.
