Polish PM expresses condolences after miners killed in Pniówek mine accident

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday that the government stands in solidarity with the families of two miners who died in an accident at the Pniówek coal mine.

“We all share in the grief of the families of the two miners who lost their lives. The authorities at JSW have assured me that the victims’ relatives are receiving proper support and can count on all necessary assistance,” Tusk wrote on social media.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a sudden release of methane, accompanied by rock debris, occurred in the mine.

Ten workers were present at the site at the time, eight of whom managed to exit safely.

The two deceased miners were aged 40 and 41.
